1 Road, 1 Priority, 1 Way

Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25 both read, "There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death." It is important to reflect on the road we are walking, because, as it says in Matthew 7:13-14, "...For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Although our culture tries to persuade us that there are many roads, in Jesus's own words we find that He is the only way.

After we know the way, what's next? In Luke 18:18-25 we see a ruler who asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus starts His response with following the commandments which the ruler says he has kept. Finally, Jesus responds in verse 22, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." The priority is to seek first God's kingdom and righteousness than to collect earthly riches.

Lastly, since man's ways and ideas lead us on the wrong road, it is clear that we can't save ourselves. Thankfully, in Luke 18:27, Jesus gives us hope, saying, "What is impossible with man is possible with God." It is impossible to earn our own salvation, but God made one way. Only through Jesus's sacrifice on the cross on our behalf are we saved. There is one road, one priority, one way. Do you believe this? How then will you live?
