The Blank Check

In preparation for the Ecclesiastes Sermon Series, we learn about the author, King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived. King Solomon was King David's son, who was blessed by God with what we might call a blank check. "Ask for whatever you want me to give you" (1 Kings 3:5 NIV). King Solomon asks for wisdom, and God gives him the gift. To have the gift is one thing, to use it is another. Although King Solomon was wise, he did not always obey the LORD, in fact, he disobeyed several commands, demonstrating clearly that we all fall short of the glory of God, including the wisest among us (Romans 3:23). In the Ecclesiastes Sermon Series, we will hear King Solomon's wisdom, speaking in hindsight of what he would've done differently. May we use the gifts God has given us, not just set it aside.
